And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”” (Numbers 14:6-9, ESV)

Pastor Abel’s sermon on Numbers 13-14 is titled, Led by Fear”.

Jedi Master Yoda said, “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” As wise as those words sound, Yoda never tells us the solution to fear.

In the above passage, we see that the answer to fear is not within ourselves, but it is in turning to God and trusting his promises. To trust God’s promises, we have to know what those promises are, and we need to believe them. So, this week, set aside some time to do the following study. Look up the verses in the table for each “fear not” command and jot down the reason given for why the people were told not to fear. Meditate on how God’s promises can free you from the fears you face in your own life.
